Origins of the Dos Maderas Desconstruido

The Dos Maderas Desconstruido is why some cocktail bar patrons enjoy comparing today’s mixologists to chemists, minus the white lab coats. We are in an age when it is truly hip to be square and nerding out is far more cool than formerly popularized in vintage pop culture. As the name denotes, the Dos Maderas Desconstruido is a rum cocktail that takes itself apart only to be put back together, figuratively speaking. The components each represent the Rum’s trio of cask aging. The structure of this cocktail’s story borrows part from a Rum Old Fashioned and part from a Manhattan where the vermouth is subbed in for by oxidative sherry. The rum is blended with its two sherry components for which it shared cask or bota time-space with during its aging process. Visually speaking, one can imagine an accordion being stretched out as the rum mixes with both sherries, causing it to dilute into a more amiable cocktail form. And the end result? A song by the river as you enjoy a romantic meal on a terrace and finish with a sweet memento.

While not as popular as the original whiskey form, this aged rum variation makes the rounds and is enjoyed immensely.
